A small circular plaza with a Victorian fountain at its center, originally built as a carriage turnaround and water trough — and now one of the most quietly spectacular viewpoints in Central Park, looking out across the Lake toward Bow Bridge.

A small circular plaza with a low fountain at its center, originally designed in 1860 as a turnaround for horse-drawn carriages. The view from here is one of Central Park's quietly perfect moments: looking south across the Lake toward Bow Bridge, west toward the San Remo building's twin towers on Central Park West. Most visitors walk straight past on their way to Bethesda Terrace. The peak cherry blossom season, typically late April, turns the surrounding trees pink and the reflection in the Lake is exceptional. Open 24 hours. Free. Best visited at golden hour.
Late April for the cherry blossoms — the trees around the plaza peak around the same time and reflect in the Lake below.
This is a better angle for photographing Bow Bridge than the bridge itself. Stand at the Cherry Hill fountain and look West — you get the bridge, the Lake, and the San Remo towers in one frame with nobody else in your shot.
