The outdoor ice skating rink in the southern section of Central Park, open each winter since 1950 against a backdrop of the Midtown Manhattan skyline. In summer it converts to a small amusement park for families. One of the most scenic skating venues anywhere in the world.

The ice skating rink Kevin McCallister visits in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Open since 1949 — converts to a small amusement park (Victorian Gardens) in summer. The view from here looking up at the midtown skyline is one of the most overlooked panoramas in the park; you're standing at the only angle where the buildings of 59th Street form a complete unbroken wall above the trees. Ice skating open October through April. Skate rental approximately $15.
Ice skating season weekday afternoons — queues are shortest, ice is freshest after the midday resurface, and the skyline view from the rink is clearest on cold clear days.
Even if you're not skating, the viewing area at the rink's edge is free to access and gives you one of the only elevated unobstructed views of the Midtown skyline from inside the park. The angle from the north end of the rink looking south over the ice toward the buildings is the one that appears in Home Alone 2.
